Graveyard Keeper 2 Dynamite Guide: Recipe, Ingredients and Masteries

You craft Graveyard Keeper 2 dynamite at the Formulation Bench from two Explosive Dust and one Alcohol. You need it to blow up the two collapsed walls in the Factory area and the blocked entrance of the Old Mine. Without those blasts, whole areas and technologies stay locked.

This guide gives you the full Graveyard Keeper 2 dynamite recipe, where the ingredients come from, which masteries you need and where you even get your first stick for free. All core values were checked in the game.

๐Ÿงจ The Graveyard Keeper 2 Dynamite Recipe

Dynamite is made at the Formulation Bench and requires Anatomy mastery 5. The recipe itself is short:

Alcohol1Distillation Cube

The catch isn't the dynamite. It's the Explosive Dust. That's not a raw material you find lying around but an alchemy product you have to brew first, and that's exactly where most players get stuck.

๐Ÿ’ฅ How to Make Explosive Dust

Explosive Dust comes from the laboratory and uses the rune system. The required rune total is 2 red and 2 blue. The simplest combination, confirmed in the game:

  • Tin (2 red, 1 blue) plus Seed Oil (1 blue) gives exactly 2 red and 2 blue.

Tin comes from the Sluice Box, and you make Seed Oil at the Millstone. Both can be produced endlessly, so you never hit a dead end. Every brew also uses up one empty Alchemy Flask. How the rune system works in detail is explained in our Graveyard Keeper 2 alchemy guide.

There's also a chest with Explosive Dust in the Old Mine at the start of the game. But the mine is exactly the place you need dynamite to open, so for a steady supply you'll have to brew your own.

๐Ÿบ How to Make Alcohol

You get the Alcohol for dynamite at the Distillation Cube. It belongs to the alchemy branch, and it's a standard ingredient you'll need for other recipes anyway. One Alcohol per stick of dynamite is enough.

๐Ÿงฑ The Full Ingredient Chain at a Glance

So you don't forget a step, here's the full chain from bottom to top:

  • Get Tin from the Sluice Box and Seed Oil from the Millstone.
  • Brew Tin plus Seed Oil into Explosive Dust in the laboratory. You need two portions per stick of dynamite.
  • Make Alcohol at the Distillation Cube.
  • Craft Dynamite at the Formulation Bench from 2 Explosive Dust and 1 Alcohol.

Both Factory walls take one stick each, and the Old Mine takes another. Plan your Explosive Dust for several batches.

๐Ÿชจ Blowing Up Walls: What Else You Need

Here's a big stumbling block: dynamite alone isn't enough to actually blow the walls. You also need Building mastery 8. Without it, the game won't let you use the dynamite on the wall, even though it's in your inventory. That confuses a lot of players, because the dynamite is ready and nothing happens.

There are only three spots in the whole game where you need dynamite: the two broken walls in the Factory area and the collapsed entrance of the Old Mine. The mine entrance pays off most, because together with the mine passage it unlocks the zombie gathering technologies, Zombie Mining among them.

โš ๏ธ Common Dynamite Mistakes

With Graveyard Keeper 2 dynamite, most players get stuck at the same points. Knowing them saves you frustration and wasted ingredients:

  • Explosive Dust won't brew: the rune total has to be exactly 2 red and 2 blue. One ingredient too many pushes a color over the total, and the recipe won't start. Tin plus Seed Oil hits it cleanly.
  • Dynamite can't be placed: that's almost always missing Building mastery 8, not the dynamite itself.
  • Ingredient not researched: if an alchemy ingredient hasn't been read at the Study Table yet, the laboratory only shows a question mark and doesn't count it.
  • Anatomy mastery too low: below level 5, the dynamite recipe doesn't even show up at the Formulation Bench.

โ›๏ธ Why the Old Mine Is Worth It

Of the three blast sites, the entrance to the Old Mine matters most. Behind it is the mine passage, and together they unlock the zombie gathering technologies. Those let you automate whole mining and gathering jobs later on, which cuts your late-game workload a lot.

The two Factory walls, on the other hand, open up extra production space in the Factory area. Both blasts are worth the effort of the alchemy chain, because they unlock new options for good instead of giving you a one-time boost.

๐ŸŽ Your First Dynamite for Free

You don't have to craft your very first stick yourself. The quest "Can't See The Forest for the Iron" in the forest hands you one: you make a simple candle, give it to Larry the skull, and then head to the bandit camp. There, Larry pretends to be the bandits' old leader Robert, and afterwards the bandits give you a stick of dynamite. That's enough for your first blast before you've mastered the whole alchemy chain.

It's still worth learning the recipe early, because all three blast sites need more than one stick. More guides are on our Graveyard Keeper 2 hub.

โ“ FAQ: Graveyard Keeper 2 Dynamite

Why can't I use the dynamite on the wall?

You're missing Building mastery 8. Without that level you can't place the dynamite, even if it's sitting finished in your inventory.

What is Explosive Dust made of?

Any mix with a rune total of 2 red and 2 blue. Tin plus Seed Oil hits that total exactly and is confirmed in the game.

Where do I get my first dynamite?

From the forest quest "Can't See The Forest for the Iron" with Larry and the bandits. After a simple candle and a visit to the bandit camp, you get one stick for free.

How much dynamite do I need in total?

At least three: two for the Factory walls and one for the Old Mine. Plan your Explosive Dust for several batches.

Which masteries do I need?

Anatomy mastery 5 to craft dynamite at the Formulation Bench, and Building mastery 8 to use it on the walls.

As of October 8, 2026: recipe, ingredients and mastery levels were checked in the game, and the Explosive Dust mix was confirmed in the laboratory. English item, station and quest names follow the English community wiki wikily.gg and English community guides.
